My workshop block of time was 4 hours. It basically broke down into 2 hours of info "giving" time and 2 hours of work time. Seemed like a good mix. I can relate to how hard it is to find a solid chunk of time to look at websites and resources when you have young kids at home in the summer.
Workshop resources:
Agenda came first. Then I decided to get fancy and use the bazillion Scrappin' Doodles resources I have purchased over the year and create a colorful presentation. THEN I actually printed the presentation, because it was so colorful, even though I had no reason to print it:):):)

What a fun day of learning! I really like the Plus/Change reflection idea. I will definitely have to try that next year as we get rolling with our PD and book studies. You are so right about allowing teachers to process/work on their learning. Too many times we forget that aspect of PD. As a leadership team we try to always allow at least 30 minutes each time as what we like to call "structured release time." This time varies depending on the topic and other aspects of school life that are going on. However, this time allows the teachers to return to their classrooms/lab to work on some aspect of their new learning. :)
ReplyDeleteMelinda, It looks like you all had a wonderful day of learning! I am going to try to implement the Plus/Change reflection next year as we get our PD underway. We have staff development at least 2 Mondays a month and we try to allow at least 30 minutes of each session to include "structured release time" where teachers can return to their classroom/lab to work on the work! That time varies depending on the topic of the training and other aspects of school life at that time. However, it is always beneficial to allow teachers to "try it" while it is fresh on their minds b/c so many other things seek their attention on a daily basis. :)
ReplyDeleteOh these are good guidelines! I did the Plus/Delta and it was great! It was great feedback for me to understand their learning process. We do "exit tickets" almost every time and they are easy and quick feedback tools!
